Warm Welcome For Bajevic In Crete
By: Chris Paraskevas | November 22nd, 2008In cooperation with Goal.com:
Upon his arrival in Crete ahead of his side’s clash with OFI, AEK Athens manager Dusan Bajevic has received an encouraging reception from traveling fans…
The former Yugoslavia international is about to begin his third stint with the club and arrived at the Heraklian International Airport on Saturday.
There he was greeted by around 200 AEK fans who chanted his name, a sign perhaps that the majority of supporters have forgiven his controversial departures from the club during his previous two stints.
In his first official press conference as the AEK’s new manager, the 60 year-old ask for forgiveness from the fans after he left the club in rather acrimonious circumstances for rivals Olympiakos during the mid-90s.
His move coincided with the beginning of a decade-long dominance of Greek football for the Piraeus club that continues to this day.
It is perhaps ironic that the same man who began that ‘dynasty’ now seeks to break it, as AEK go in search of their first league title in 14 years.
AEK squad for OFI match:
Saja, Macho, Kafes, Koutroumanos, Majstorovic, Kyrgiakos, Alexopoulos, Juanfran, Nsaliwa, Edinho, Djebbour, Manduca, Basinas, Pliatsikas, Lagos, Blanco, Scocco, Zorbas, Pavlis
