Rejoicing in the failure of others…
By: Chris Paraskevas | March 9th, 2009…Ok so this blog entry is a little late, seeing as how we missed the opportunity to truly rejoice in Panathinaikos’ embarrassing exit at the hands of Panserraikos in the Greek Cup and Olympiakos’ various recent shortcomings (though they still hold a 9 point lead at the top of the Greek Super League ladder -
a sign of the perpetual imbalance of the domestic scene).
Still though, allow me to take a brief moment to snicker at both football institutions on behalf of AEK Athens and Greek fans everywhere – * snicker *
Not that we at the Enosi are in a privileged-enough position to look down upon our Athenian neighbours (for those who wisely avoid following Greek football in pursuit of more tangible benefits, the club are irreversibly in debt and without a potential saviour).
However, the sort of performances that are turned in occasionally under Dusan Bajevic provided for some rather more positive distractions from the otherwise doomed life of an AEK supporter – the most recent 5-1 victory over Panserraikos a sign of what the Serb tactician could do with the proper resources and backing next season).
Of course, only time will tell if that happens but the gap has been closed on both Panathinaikos and PAOK for what could be a crucial final UEFA Champions League Qualifying spot…
PS. Another substitute appearance for Aussie Nathan Burns this weekend, his second in a row.
