Belated victory…
By: Chris Paraskevas | August 22nd, 2008It feels like our first legitimate win of the pre-season in so many ways. After all, we can only consider the win over EPL side Bolton in the context of the Athenian disaster that followed the following week. How can we remember anything pre-Omonia-at-home? Painful stuff.

Nonetheless, we scored 2 goals and beat a Dutch Eridivisie side and finally, FINALLY, one of our high-profile signings – Kyrgiakos – made his debut. I read one report in Greece that labelled it as one of our best performances of the pre-season (which really isn’t saying much at all…)
A bit of talk might be generated by Kone’s winning goal, particularly in the ensuing celebration where he was diplomatically ‘Hi-5′d by rumoured sparring partner Panagiotis Lagos (Obama take note…)
Anyway, I’m still not filled with confidence with the trip to Nicosia fast approaching and the off-pitch instability that might filter through from the board-room is the last thing needed before what could be an extremely tough encounter. Basinas’ experience is desperately needed to hold together what seems like a virtually absent midfield. There is still a worrying lack of pace in midfield, which Melissanidis’ oil money will hopefully help rectify…
