Bajevic Rules Out AEK Championship; Focuses On Cup

The message is loud and clear from AEK Athens manager Dusan Bajevic: there is to be no league title for the 15th year in a row.
AEK Athens manager Dusan Bajevic has virtually ruled out any chance of his side winning the league this season, instead choosing to focus his efforts on the Greek Cup.
After 14 Rounds, AEK are currently sitting in fifth place on the Greek Super League ladder, 12 points behind in-form league leaders Olympiakos.
Bajevic, who returned for his third stint with the club only a few weeks ago, has again echoed sentiments about a lost cause in the league championship.
Speaking at a press conference and quoted by his club’s official website, the Serbian manager was again realistic in setting out his side’s goals for the remainder of the season.
“I told you all clearly from my first interview and will tell you again clearly,” Bajevic said. “At this moment AEK cannot win the championship – it is difficult.
“I can tell you that we’re going for a championship but we’re not.”
However, the 60-year-old says his side will chase European football for next season – by qualifying for the Greek Super League play-offs – as well as trying to bring some silverware to the club in the form of the Greek Cup: “We won’t stop chasing second place and we want to be in the play-offs and to win the Greek Cup – these are the objectives.”
