Assorted Stuff…
By: Chris Paraskevas | January 9th, 2009Well, the PAOK match is upon us and the squad has been selected. As always, Aussie starlet Nathan Burns (who has yet to make a competitive appearance this season) has been relegated to the U21s side and Nacho Scocco, Panagiotis Lagos and Giorgios Alexopoulos miss out through injury.
The former in particular will be an absence from which we may struggle to recover, his pace and explosiveness a rare commodity in Dusan Bajevic’s otherwise lethargic outfit (which makes you wonder why he won’t at least promote a player like Burns to the bench? He can’t be that much worse than the others…)
To be honest, I’d have to consider PAOK favourites for this match given their form this season and the manner in which they outplayed as at the Toumba earlier in the season.
The only saving grace we have is that PAOK are notoriously poor travelers, particularly in recent years and particularly to Athens – though that could be an added incentive for them as they try to establish themselves as genuine contenders for the league title this season.
A bit of extra news on the training centre front as well, with the club releasing an official statement dealing with the usual array of outright lies on the always-entertaining Hellenic rumour-reel.
Apparently (well, according to my scratchy understanding of Greek) the club doesn’t own the training centre, though it will apparently be “operated” by the shareholders.
PS. Still no confirmation that Kintis has resigned as president…
*Sigh* Another week in the world of AEK…
A little PAOK preview:
